Q? Why do you do it?
A: First off we do it celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus, who is the light of the world! Secondly we enjoy decorating for Christmas and lights in general immensely!

Q? How high is your power bill?
A: Our monthly bill only goes up about 60-70 dollars during the time the shows are running. If that sounds surprising at first remember that the lights are never all on at the same time. Also I frequently dim the lights reducing the amount of power used. Most people see no visible difference between 90-100% so usually the lights stay 90% and below.

Q? The sign out front says to tune your radio to 98.7 FM, do you have a radio station?
A: Not a radio station just a small low power FM transmitter. The power is kept low so I do not interfere with real radio stations and stay clear of the wrath of the FCC.

Q? What do you use to control the lights?
A: All of the hardware is D-light brand AC-16 controllers. I have a total of 8 control boards from D-light for a total of 128 individual channels. The software used to schedule and sequence the light show to music is Aurora brand. I must say that I’ve messed with or tried most of what is available to the Christmas light enthusiast and D-light and Aurora is the best combination in my opinion.

Q? How long does it take you to prepare for the Christmas light season?
A: The short answer is a long time! Each song takes about 8-20 hours to sequence. The display items I begin building and planning almost as soon as the previous seasons lights come down. If my wife and I kept track of all the hours all year long we put into the display I think it would take away some of the fun, so we don’t.

Q? How much does it cost you?
A: For the same reason we don’t count the hours, we never add up all of the cost. The public on the other hand gets the see the whole thing for free!

Q? Are you an electrician?
A: No I’m a Wastewater treatment plant manager and my wife owns a local beauty salon. All of my electrical abilities are self taught and my wife leaves the wiring and related work to me.

Q? How long have you been doing displays like this?
A: For 13 years.

Q? How much help do you have to do all of this?
A: Basically I do a lot of the building wiring and lifting. My Wife does a lot of planning designing and supervising. Our daughters love to help us set up and take down the display.
